How can I look for new hobbies without having to use meetup?

So I say I can’t use meetup because I’ve already tried it, short of tech stuff, people were I live don’t really use meetup, there’s really very little with that. However, with that said there is a ton of stuff to do, I just don’t know how to find it.

Anyway, after having spent 2019 practically stressed out, I feel like I spent too much time worrying about too many things. My former job was awfully stressful and I had to spend too much time focusing on applying to grad school. My social life basically disappeared last year. I intended to look into finding new hobbies last year, but things didn’t work out as intended, grad school became too important and I had to put everything on hold. Now, I have more time, but I’ve always had my difficulties with finding the things I like.

I tried to take French last year, unfortunately it went badly, I had to drop the class because I was simply not able to continue with grad school on top of everything. The place where I took classes wasn’t all that great either, so I had little motivation to remain in there. Nonetheless, I found the language quite interesting and continued to learn on my own, I enrolled into a class at a new place.

I’d also like to point out, that I’m not real good at the arts and culture stuff. I’m very much into math, economics, computer science and finance, those are kind of my past times, but they’re sometimes just not so humane. I guess I’ve been a little close minded on that sort of thing. In a way, I’ve always felt somewhat concerned about going to places like those, sometimes I am afraid that my views might not be welcome in such places. I lean somewhat right, though I don’t affiliate with any political parties or movements, nor do I intend to go to those places to speak about politics.

Anyway, some of the things I’ve thought of are grilling, movies(there’s a movie club nearby), meditation(I get stressed out too much about too many things that are really pointless), gardening(I’m not sure where to look for that). I’ve also been wanting to explore my sexuality, I don’t really have a girlfriend at the moment, but I want to be more open to that stuff, and I don’t really know where to look for like minded people for that, I grew up in a very conservative household, and up until now I’ve been rediscovering myself and what I like, I’ve found sexuality is a topic that greatly interests me. I’m a man by the way.

Also I’d like to mention that I’ve had difficulties with these things because I’ve really tried to apply an engineering mindset to these things. Up until recently I had a hard time considering the value of art, because it did not fit well into engineering. People have told me I’m missing the point of art, if I try to view it that way. In many ways, I also viewed hobbies this way, I thought of them as things that could “get me something”. For instance I stuck to doing programming, math, finance, because I liked them but also because they were useful. I don’t think this mindset works very well when trying to do things like hobbies.

Anyway, if anyone can help me I’d appreciate it. I’m really trying to shift my mindset on these things.
